AYA NİKOLA MANASTIRI (THE MONASTERY OF ST. NICHOLAS) HAGIA NICHOLA

Milattan sonra 6. Yüzyıl Kıral Jüstinyen (527-565) dönemine ait olup Kırklareli Kıyıköy'dedir.

Kaya manastırlarının en iyi örneklerindendir. 19. Yüzyılda ön tarafına ahşap bir bölüm ilave dilmişse de bu bölümle ilgili günümüze herhangi bir kalıntı ulaşmamıştır. Kayalara oyulmak suretiyle oluşturulan manastırın zemin katı kilise, daha aşağıda bulunan bodrum katı ise ayazmadır. Ayrıca keşişlerin dinlenme ve ihtiyaç hücreleri mevcuttur.

THE MONASTERY OF ST. NICHOLAS
The Monastery of St. Nicholas is one of the most important and an interesting architectural monument, which has been cut into the large rock mass in the 6th century (A.D.), located in Kıyıkoy in Kirklareli – Turkey. The monastery has built in a prosperous time, under the sovereignty of the Byzantinean Emperor Justinian (527-565 A.D.) According to historical documents, we know that there where a wooden constructions built as annex in front of the rock mass in the 19th century. This annex of wood has not remained up to the present.
